90 decibels is equal to: Boeing 737 or DC-9 aircraft at one nautical mile (6080 ft) before landing (97 dB); power mower (96 dB); motorcycle at 25 ft (90 dB). Newspaper press (97 dB).
It’s partly a cultural thing. I’ve been several times to other countries with my two boys (raised in the US) and they were consistently the loudest children on the playground. And my kids are usually pretty mild compared to the other kids in their group.
I do hearing tests. Out of the countless I’ve done, I’ve noticed the following:
Women in particular have more hearing loss on the side of their body on which they carry their baby.
FYI – I am not saying men don’t hold their children! But the ones I test are usually in noisey occupations so their reduction is usually in both ears (or women in noisy occupations of course…there are plenty of female mechanics etc)
Hey – but the hearing loss! Problem solves itself, amirite?
My wife is an audiologist. We once clocked my daughter at 113db in the car.

That’s some serious noise!
It’s when it gets quiet that you start to worry and the look in their eyes will tell you the level of shit you would have to clean up.
Hahahaha yes, the high pitched screaming of 3 young girls is something I am familiar with. I feel you pain!!
This was caused by a game of hide-and-seek (including a hide-and-seek injury).
Refund?
Is there a warning for sanity loss?
I can hear this photo.
I feel ya… I’ve got 3 boys running around screaming and shooting nerf guns everywhere 🤦🏻♀️🤣
It took me a minute to realize that wasn’t a weird smirking smiley face.

Never has a Reddit post spoken to me as much as this has

Now try having like 5 neighbor boys at your house 24/7… it never ends
The wife and I are on the fence about having kids… nothing like a child screaming makes me want to stay child free.
Holy shit, I need this for my neighbors. How accurate is it?
I can’t even be around my dog, or casually listening to music in my car without this yelling at me.
Don’t have kids, when they are not screaming they are being loud about how happy they are.
another reason for /r/childfree
I feel like i say “can you please lower the volume” or “stop shouting at me” abiut 100 times a day during lockdown
Try working at a Roller Skating Rink during some girls 16th birthday.
I have been to quieter AC/DC concerts
Ahhh I can hear the high pitched screams and chaos now
My watch does this when I blow dry my hair. And it’s less decibels than that
That’d be the end of my sobriety!
